California Firearms Excise Tax
New excise tax for California resident purchases begining July 1, 2024
Starting July 1, 2024, CMMG will be required to collect The California Firearms, Firearm Precursor Parts, and Ammunition Excise Tax (CFET) at the time of sale for all online orders to residents in the state of California.
The excise tax is 11% of the cost of all items in applicable categories of the CFET. This is separate and additional to any local, state, and/or county sales taxes.
Applicable product categories subject to the CFET:
- Complete firearms.
- Upper and lower receivers, stripped or complete.
- All AR parts including magazines and repair kits.
CMMG merchandise, apparel, tools, cleaning supplies, snacks, coffee, and other gear not considered an AR part are NOT subject to this additional excise tax. For more information about The CFET from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration click here.
The CFET will be calculated on any applicable items at checkout and added to the Shipping line, with regular state/local sales tax appearing on the Tax line.
